PPG, Bombardier Create New Aircraft Paint Effect

The Carrington Holding Global Express features a special-effect design created using PPG coatings.

PPG’s coatings recently were used to develop a special-effect paint scheme for a Bombardier Global Express XRS owned by Carrington Holding. Paint specialists at Bombardier’s Tucson, Arizona service center used a three-layer PPG topcoat system to create the “Carrington Pearl Blue” paint job. PPG paint experts in Mojave, California, mixed the company’s Desothane HS 8000 topcoat to create Carrington Pearl Blue. The topcoat was applied over white Desothane HS 8800 topcoat in a graduated luminescent horizontal stripe on the fuselage, along with the vertical stabilizer's leading edge and across the engine cowling.

The paint job also includes metallic titanium and Las Vegas Gold stripes across the airplane and metallic blue paint along the fuselage bottom. The aircraft was finished with a clear Desothane HS 8800 topcoat.

“The overall effect is absolutely stunning,” said Carrington CEO Bruce Rose, owner and pilot of a Bombardier Global Express. “While we have had the same fleet paint scheme for more than 10 years, the updated version with Carrington Pearl Blue was made possible through the amazing efforts of the PPG and Bombardier Tucson teams.”
