Jakarta-based Sriwijaya Air placed an order for two Next-Generation 737 aircraft at the Paris Air Show.

The order, previously attributed to an unidentified customer on the Orders and Deliveries website, marks the first all-new aircraft purchase for the Indonesian airline and included a letter of intent to exercise options for up to 20 additional 737s.

Sriwijaya Air selected CFM56-7B engines to power the two aircraft, in an order valued at $44 million at current list prices.

Sriwijaya Air president Chandra Lie said, “Since our beginning, the 737 has been the backbone of our fleet and with its reliability, efficiency and lower maintenance and operating costs, there was no better choice for us than the 737 as we continue to grow.”

The airline operates an all-Boeing fleet of 737 aircraft and offers flights to various Indonesian destinations as well as a few international cities.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes SVP-global sales & marketing John Wojick said, “These new 737s will help Sriwijaya Air continue to expand its network while carrying more passengers in greater comfort and with superior economics. We look forward to finalizing the additional 737s with this great airline in the future.”
