In ceremonies held at Alaska Airlines Seattle Sea-Tac home on August 24th, the carrier offically retired it's McDonnell Douglas MD-80 fleet. The carrier took delivery of its first MD-80 (DC-9-82) N931AS (49232/1178) on February 20, 1985. The carrier operated a total of 48 MD-80s over the years which includes 8 aircraft from Long Beach based Jet America Airlines which Alaska Airlines took over in 1987. The carrier took delivery of it's last new built MD-80 (DC-9-83) N982AS (53473/2183) on May 27th 1997.
