Malaysia Airlines has retired its last Boeing 737-400, ending a 22 year run for the variant in the airline’s fleet.
The type’s final flight was service MH1165, which flew from Penang to Kuala Lumpur International airport on the evening of 14 June.
Since entering service with MAS in 1992, 737-400s have been used on domestic and some regional services. At one time the airline had 54 of the type in service.
MAS had also previously operated the shorter -500 variant, and before that the -200.
The -400s have been replaced by 56 of the newer -800 variant aircraft. MAS also has a further 14 on order, but has not yet indicated if it plans to order the upgraded 737 Max or rival Airbus A320neo series as future replacements.
