The increase in aircraft was largely driven by Boeing 787-9 deliveries. The ANA Group reported a total fleet size of 257 aircraft as of Dec. 28, 2016, compared to 246 aircraft on Dec. 25, 2015.
The carrier saw a net increase of two destinations and six routes in its international network during the period, and grew its weekly international flights by 70 to 1,328. The number of domestic flights was unchanged at 792 per day.
ANA added 12 787-9s during 2016 and has 21 of the aircraft type. It also received its 36th 787-8 and added three Airbus A321s and three 737-800s. As part of its fleet modernization program, the airline reduced its Boeing 767-700 and 737-700 fleets by three aircraft each, and decreased its 777-200s by two.
ANA will have about the same number of aircraft when it wraps up its fiscal year on March 31. The carrier has already received its expected number of 787-9 deliveries for the current fiscal year. ANA’s international network will generally be the same as well. It plans to add only one more route, from Tokyo Narita Airport to Mexico City, before the fiscal year ends.
ANA expects to take delivery of six more 787-9s in its next fiscal year beginning April 1.
The carrier has also released its November operational data. Its international passenger traffic increased 14.6% year-on-year, while capacity rose 9%. The biggest capacity gains were on routes to Asia and Oceania, which increased 23.7% on average.
Domestic passenger traffic rose 0.3% in November on a 2.1% capacity decline. International cargo volume was up 20.3%, and mail volume dropped 11.8%. Domestic cargo volume increased 6.8%, with mail down 0.5%.
